A Journey from the Wilds of Nevada to a Forever Wild Home — and Perhaps a Special Reunion

Get to Know Me
I'm a beautiful black mare with a little star on my forehead and a distinctive white marking on my left front leg. I was born around January 2021 in Nevada's Moriah herd area, where I spent my early years living wild and free.
On October 17, 2023, when I was not quite three years old, my life changed when I was rounded up and removed from the land I called home.
The BLM identified me as #2742, but I'm so much more than a number. I'm a wild horse with a story, a past filled with freedom, and perhaps even some familiar faces waiting to be rediscovered.
Now, at approximately five years old, and after nearly three years away from the range, I have the opportunity to experience freedom again at Rewilding America Now, where thousands of acres await and I'll have room to roam alongside other wild horses.
And perhaps I'll even be reunited with horses I once knew! Three other horses on this Freedom Ride came from my same herd area, including two who were rounded up on the very same day as me.
Could we have known one another in the wild? Could we have been part of the same family band? We don't know for certain, but the possibility makes our journey together especially meaningful.
Although I cannot return to the life I once knew, thanks to the kindness of people who care, I have the chance for a wonderful new life filled with freedom — and perhaps some familiar companions from my past.
Could you be the one to give me a name of my own?
More of My Journey
A Possible Reunion from the Moriah Herd Area
Four horses on this Freedom Ride share an interesting connection:
-
#2742: Black mare, captured October 17, 2023.
-
#2743 — Zeena: Bay mare, captured October 17, 2023.
-
#2813 — Zaydan: Brown gelding, captured October 17, 2023.
-
#2829: Black gelding, captured October 18, 2023.
All four came from Nevada's Moriah herd area and were rounded up within just two days.
While their exact relationships are unknown, they may have shared the same range or even known one another before their removal. Their journey to Rewilding America Now offers the possibility of being together again.
Additional photographs of my journey will be shared here.
